Marching (Through March 2024) More Formally @ the East End Gallery

Autumn has gently arrived at the East End Gallery after a relentless summer. About bloody time! The temperatures have dropped at night, allowing sleep without the need of our bedroom air-conditioner. Hurray for fresh air. Visiting our oval has now resumed in the evening, allowing Stella and Lexi to charge around with their doggy mates. More play means less naughtiness by Miss Lexi during the night. Our garden has ceased to gasp for moisture and our watering duties have become pleasurable rather than a daily fight for survival.

All in all, life at Station House in Heavenly Beverley has become very pleasant indeed once more.

We can hardly believe that we have been opening the doors of the East End Gallery and Giftshop for over nine years. We have loved the casual and easy-going nature of our Gallery, focusing on the creation of a wonderful artists precinct and an amazing community of supporters. We have prided ourselves on our limited paperwork and mutually agreed verbal understandings. Alas, the East End Gallery can't remain this way any longer.

An accidentally damaged artpiece and an unhappy artist were the catalyst for these changes. In addition, I couldn't find the artist's phone and email contacts and sent a message through LinkedIn to explain the circumstances. The artist's reaction, contacting me again after ten months of silence, was to berate me.

Given the stresses of 2023 and my health issues spilling over into 2024, our reaction has been to formalise arrangements with all our artists. Many thanks must go to Thelma Cluning, Sally Watts and Lorraine Pichugin for taking the time to edit this document and provide extremely helpful suggestions.

I believe we have produced a clear and concise statement that will benefit both our artists and the East End Gallery and Giftshop.

Please read the the Artist Contract and Agreement conditions that I am adding to this post, if you are represented by the East End Gallery . I would appreciate all our artists contacting us through email, so I can send the full document for signatures. And answer any questions.

In the meantime,Michael and I are thrilled with the latest overhaul of the Gallery and Giftshop. This has been a labour of love, taking weeks to complete over our break during January. As a result of all our hard work, our Gallery and Giftshop space is looking sharp and interesting and beautiful and intriguing. Michael also rediscovered his mojo over the summer, returned to his creative zone and produced new and astonishing sculptures. To watch him work is utterly mesmerising.

Amongst all of Michael's story telling through sculpture, we continue to welcome new artists into our space; we are just in awe of the outstanding talent that has found their way into the East End Gallery.

We are gearing up for our first Sundowner of 2024 on Saturday 30 March (Easter Saturday). If you are attending for the first time or need reminding here are the details -

  • The Gallery and Giftshop are open as per usual from 11am.
  • Our World-Famous Sausage Sizzle will commence from 5.30pm. FREE of charge. Any donations will go the restoration of St Mary's Anglican Church in Beverley.
  • LIVE music will begin as the sun sets. We do not pay our fantastic musicians so they do not have a set time for beginning or ending. Think of this as a jam session playing good music with no head-banging stuff. FREE of charge.
  • Anybody with a voice or an instrument may turn up and join in.
  • Please bring a bottle and a plate of finger food to share.
  • This is an opportunity to meet like-minded people, enjoy great music and conversation and view the East End Gallery and Giftshop at a leisurely pace.
  • All are welcome.

Along with all the other artistic studios and the Station Gallery here in Heavenly Beverley, we will be open all Easter. Here are a few other tantalising events on offer in our wonderful town throughout the Easter long weekend -

  • For a taste of Wimbledon, do not miss the 90th annual tennis tournament at the Beverley Lawn Tennis Club. Four days of round robin matches 29 March - 1 April.
  • The Easter Art Prize and 55th Annual Exhibition at the Beverley Town Hall. The preview is on Thursday 28 March from 10am - 4pm (no sales). The official opening is Thursday 28 March between 7pm and 9pm. Entry is $10 per person or $5 per child. The exhibition continues until Easter Monday 1 April, closing at 2pm. Entry for these days is $2 per adult, $1 per child or $5 for a family.
  • Beverley Community Markets will be at the Station precinct on Saturday 30 March. The Artist-in-Residence at the Station will be Kirsten Sivyer.
  • Take a stroll along Vincent Street and check out all the plaques dedicated to Beverley's past.
  • Visit the Beverley Community Garden and pick up a basket of goodies for a low cost on Easter Saturday.
  • Don't forget the Op Shop opening both Easter Thursday and Easter Saturday.
  • The Dead Finish Museum will open on Easter Sunday. Always worth a visit with an eye-opening view of Beverley's early days.
  • The Beverley Visitors' Centre and the East End Gallery will share tourism information duties all Easter. For any queries, do pop into either (or both) of these venues.

So, what are you waiting for? Turn your vehicle towards the hills at Easter and head for Heavenly Beverley. Explore all our attractions and enjoy the ambiance. I can guarantee you will want to return.

See you soon!
