Hold Onto Your Hats...Our Famous Sundowner Is Coming SOON

Spring has certainly sprung today in Heavenly Beverley. The weather is simply stunning with promises of warmth to come after a long and drab winter. Vincent Street, our main drag is merrily busy with people from all walks of life. I've chatted with bikers out on a cruisy ride, visitors from York, Northam, Pingelly, Mandurah and the Big Smoke. We have been inundated with ninety photographers to record all that is visible in Beverley and surrounds. I've had the pleasure of rewarding the artistic efforts of Leah Borona, Nada Murphy, Beverley V, Rob Pampling, Marta Salamon, Jan George, Kim Allison, Heather Sax, Kath Whiteside and Denese White.

This is why we do what we do. We just love greeting new guests, welcoming old friends and providing a monetary bonus for our artists who create for the satisfaction and joy of their work. We still get an enormous thrill of anticipation when we open the Gallery doors in the morning. And Michael has endless ideas floating in and out of his story-driven imagination, looking forward to moving past the fantasy stage and onto the delight, astonishment and frustration of producing a new piece of metal art.

September also brings our first long weekend since the beginning of winter. The Queen's Birthday public holiday falls on 24 September. I am sure the Queen would be highly amused if she realised that Western Australia is the only state in the country that celebrates her birthday (which is in April) on the final weekend of the month. The timing is all to do with the possibility of a sunny three-day break, rather than any allegiance to Her Majesty or any historical relevance.

The Queen's Birthday (!) weekend is also the perfect excuse to hold one of the East End Gallery's Famous Sundowners. Saturday 22 September is THE date to note in your calendar. As ever, we will be in the East End Gallery from eleven o'clock and close the doors when we throw the last guest out.

We will be having live music from six o'clock, featuring the amazing trio of Jan George, Guy Slingerland and Lawrence Jones. Michael will be Commander In Chief of the sausage sizzle and other nibbles and drinks will be offered. This is one of our opportunities to open the Gallery into the night with fantastic entertainment, good food and convivial company in a beautiful setting.

We have new artists' work to showcase - mixed media image maker Kerrie di Cataldo, the multi-talented Nada Murphy and the intensity of photographer Rob Pampling. Local painter Gracie Courtney continues her experimentation with acrylics and resin. Leadlight artist David Lillico has added more of his whimsical glass creations. Jenny Couper has given us a powerful new pastel.

The East End Gallery prides herself on accommodating the beautiful, the complex, the awe-inspiring and the edgy. We now support and promote seventy artists, including seven metal artists. Many galleries do not exhibit metal art and sculpture, so we are delighted that we have picked up this genre.

We look forward to the next few months with excitement. The Beverley Heroic, a fantastic weekend of all things peddling on two wheels will be held on 13/14 October. In 2017, we hosted six hundred bicycles and their riders. And one penny farthing. We are also fast approaching our fourth birthday celebrations, to be held on 22 December. This will be our last Sundowner of 2018. Amongst the mayhem of Christmas festivities, add the East End Gallery's birthday party to your diary for another show-stopping event. Immediately!

I have been attempting to write this post all weekend. Listening to the dulcet tones of "Rambo" in the background, I have finally finished. How wonderful that the last four days have been so busy with conversation and laughter that I haven't had time for routine.

Looking forward to opening in four days to meet and greet all our guests once more.
