Happy New Year From Lexi The Laundress And Other Tails...

So, this is 2024. At last, we can begin again with a clean slate. A year with no mistakes yet. I wanted to start anew, leaving 2023 as far behind as possible. Yesterday, I took down the Christmas tree and packed all the festive paraphernalia away. I washed all the sheets and towels and a monumental pile of our dirty clothes. I was determined to have an empty laundry basket to greet the new year. And the ironing, which had been almost under control, grew exponentially with all my maniacal washing

Lexi, our goofy, highly intelligent, impulsive and rapidly growing puppy can now stand on her back legs and clear the kitchen counters. She also is partial to tissue boxes left unattended, notebooks, important correspondence, newspapers, the TV magazine and kitchen wipes. A keen gardener, she adores bringing the outdoors in and has a particular fondness for chomping on pine-bark mulch. Yesterday, she added plastic coat-hangers to her repertoire of desirable snacks. I could only assume that Lexi had decided to assist me with the laundry in her own inimitable style.

As Lexi retired to the dog bed to munch triumphantly, Stella just looked as if she were saying"It wasn't me!" That was until Michael turned his back on his lunch today. Firstly, Lexi pinched one slice of bread, then a second. As Michael endeavoured to rescue his stolen bread, Stella helped herself to a slice of ham, which was gone in an instant. After I stopped laughing, I suggested Michael finished making his sandwich and actually eat, before any more ingredients could be inhaled by our Partners in Crime. Michael's rueful comment was "Well, that's another story for your blog!"

Yet, life would be very boring for all of us without Lexi. Instead of walking them on leads to the oval, we load them into the car and drive the short distance. Upon arrival, Lexi and Stella explode out of the car in pure unadulterated joy. They blast around the oval like a pair of Whirling Dervishes. They hurtle in chase of the Holy Tennis Ball, launched with the Holy Ball Thrower. They charge across the grass in noisy play, grabbing each other by the collar or giving an excellent imitation of a Hip and Shoulder aka an AFL manoeuvre.

Then, their doggy pals sometimes join us. Lorna and Kelpie Ada are often at the oval. Ada watches the ball with every gram of her wiry body, racing after it and often catching it mid flight. Violet is a sweet natured middle sized dog, Ruby is as solid a Staffy as I've ever seen with a beautiful temperament and obviously thinks of herself as a sheep dog, rounding up her "flock" and Robbie is a Terrier with tremendous speed and incredible turning skills. Adoring of his harem, Robbie has been known to trail behind some of his ladies leaving the oval, causing Mum Janet no end of anxiety.

We returned from the oval this evening, the dogs happily exhausted from play. Since then, Lexi and Stella have enjoyed their dinner and are now snoozing - one in the crate, the other stretched across the floor.

We will wait with anticipation to view any possible antics tomorrow morning. Goodnight from Stella and Lexi.
