Introducing Brian Aylward

Yesterday morning, bright and early...we were still asleep..my phone rang and rang and rang. Then Michael's phone rang. Fortunately, we were awake by this time and Michael made a mad sprint to the kitchen to answer. Shortly later, he prised me out of bed. "That was Brian Aylward from Wooroloo. He's coming up to see the Gallery today". Who?

When Brian arrived, I eventually worked out his identity. He is an artist and Facebook friend. The only image of him I'd seen of him was a self-portrait on his page. No wonder I didn't recognise him. He wasn't a painting!

According to his biography, T. Brian Aylward (what does the T stand for, Brian?) was born, educated and lived in the United Kingdom until he was twenty-nine. We'll forgive him for that...After a variety of different professions, he finally settled on being a full-time artist in 1990. He describes Wooroloo as being a "secluded village in the Perth Hills". This phrase immediately reminded me of St Mary Mead or one of the many villages in Midsomer where some poor sap was likely to be murdered!

In spite of the handicap of living in a village where you may suffer a sticky end, Brian's art is varied and eclectic. He works with pastels, oils, acrylic and chalks, charcoal, Chinese brush, pen and wash and mixed media. As a sculptor, he uses materials such as clay, glass, steel and stone.

He is a successful artist with his works in private and corporate collections in Australia and overseas. He has had dozens of solo exhibitions and won many awards and commendations.

And he wandered into the East End Gallery! After an exceedingly pleasant morning, Brian left us as our thirty-sixth artist, with five of his paintings for the Gallery. He also talked Ryan into attending one of his workshops in Wooroloo in a couple of weeks.

I just hope that Miss Marple doesn't attend Brian's workshop as well!
