Don't Dream (the dirt...) It's Over - apologies to Crowded House!

Michael had a dream. He thought that 100-year-old dust and dirt had stopped dropping on him. He was so convinced of this new eternal truth, that yesterday, he undertook a major clean-up of the renovation site at the back of Shop 4. The fireplace stood proudly with its new mantlepiece in position. The wall to be painted white has been filled, sanded and painted with white undercoat. The floor was scrupulously swept.  Ooh aah, ooh aah.

And then, reality struck. Up on the scaffolding, Michael decided to remove the long ceiling cornice in order to reattach it without the existing gaps. Disaster. As he removed the aforementioned cornice, he was showered with copious quantities of dirt, rubble, other undesirable material and stuff we don't even want to think about.

Worse still, his previously pristine place of work had resumed its resemblance to a demolition site. Sigh. All Michael could do was grit his teeth, (with his mouth shut) endure further assault by deluge de dirt and finish the removal of the cornice.

Eventually, and looking remarkably like Pigpen, Michael climbed down from the scaffolding, surveyed the wreckage and began the second clean-up of the day. Which resulted in fine dust streaming through the door into the Gallery. Which I'd just finished cleaning after our latest rearrangement....

We flew home to be made gorgeous by our mobile hairdresser. Michael spent an extraordinary length of time in the shower. He emerged as a New Man. We duly retired to the Bottom Pub for dinner with the other Photography Club members. And as night fell and they all adjourned to the Community Resource Centre for their meeting, I opened the East End Gallery to clean and vacuum once more...

Another memorable day!

The cause of the catastrophe...

still life of fireplace, scaffolding and gap...

the fireplace cleaned, take 2...

who in their right mind would buy a building like that...?!

Alternate view of removed cornice, gap and the end of the dirt (for today!)
