A Most Extraordinary Saturday @ The East End Gallery

We survived the night. Madame Cat, surprisingly, forgave us for her ordeal at "The Vet" very quickly indeed. Michael is only sporting two minor lacerations on his forearm from the effort of poking a tablet down the gullet of Her Feline Majesty. We have decided to swap roles for this evening's rounds. Michael will wrap Ruby up in the tradition of Cleopatra being presented to Julius Caesar and I will attempt to keep all my fingers intact whilst pushing the pill past her reluctant jaw.

We have had an absolutely ripping day. I opened the Gallery on time - a not insignificant miracle - and then promptly vanished up the main drag once Michael sauntered in to take charge. Actually, he could have waltzed up the street himself, but he would have been unable to find the zucchini in the veggie section, let alone pick two out. Michael claims to have a mysterious allergy to most vegetables, hence I usually end up disguising them within the depths of a casserole.

An absent-minded raffle ticket and a photo book of dogs were the first port of call at the latest stall in town. Onto the post office for the papers and then across to Nourishabley for some gluten-free corn chips for tomorrow's dinner soiree at Station House. A wave to Kylie across at Lucky Find, Beverley's finest fashion establishment. The zucchini, tonic water and tzatziki from the IGA. Whew!

Back into the Gallery. A gloriously cooler and breezy day, so we had much more enthusiasm and energy. Our guests have come over the threshold all day. Karyn Ellis' black cockatoo photograph was snapped up and another ordered.  A layby on one of Mandy Evans' limited edition wildflower prints. Oohs and aahs at Leah Borona's "Windows", the most stunning lead pencil drawing of a young girl.

Janet, Beverley Caravan Park Hostess with the Mostest, trundled into the Gallery with her red trolley to give me the raffle prize. Unusually slow (even for me!), I eventually realised I had won the raffle and Janet was presenting me with my prize. So exciting! Barry Mackie, formerly of Beverley and now resident somewhere in the Deep South of WA, is a very fine artist indeed and I was now the proud owner of one of his paintings. I was ecstatic!

But wait, there was more...

What was today's highlight (and one on Thursday) was the random act of kindness shown to a complete stranger by a complete stranger. One of our locals recently placed a five dollar layby on one of David Lillico's leadlight kookaburras. She and her Mum live in town and life has not been easy for either of them. Money is in short supply but she asked if she could pay Mr Kookaburra off over several months. No problem, I responded. Since then and completely out of the blue, Joel (the Thursday guest) and Melody ( today's guest) have both contributed ten dollars each towards the lady in question's layby. They neither know the lady nor were they under any compulsion to assist her. Now if that is not two bloody brilliant instances of generosity, I'll eat my hat.

The world is a truly wonderful place populated with (mostly) people who have tremendous heart and soul.

We have settled down for drinkies and snacks in the Gallery for a couple of hours yet. Station Arts are holding a cabaret this evening featuring the "Martini Lounge Trio" with a BYO Diner en Blanc et Noir. We hope to share the Gallery with anyone popping past to attend the cabaret.

In the meantime, any Beverley locals are welcome to join us for a glass of vino and some nibbles.

Cheers!

PS if diners find a Beagle at their dinner table, please return her to the East End Gallery...

Mr Carrot, in disguise...
